Gerald (Gerry) Walerius
The Walerius family moved from Englefield, Saskatchewan to Port Alberni in 1956. After graduating from Smith Memorial School, Gerry enrolled in Finance Courses at Sprout Shaw College, and soon after found employment with E&N Railway in Victoria. Gerry returned to Port Alberni to work at MacMillan Bloedel Ltd – Alberni Pulp & Paper, where he eventually retired.
Gerry has two daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Coming from a musical family his father Pete played banjo and mother played the accordion. Gerry’s brother Francis taught him how to play guitar as a teenager. Gerry is very active in his love for music, playing in numerous bands over the years. “I was forced to sing when no one else would.” Gerry currently plays with the “The Elderly Brothers” (formerly “Rock-it 88”) and “The Shants”. Although no longer performing the band is working on a CD which will eventually be available for distribution.
Gerry’s laid-back nature and ability to “not sweat the small stuff” coupled with his years of experience in management roles is a valued asset to AVSCHS.
